When it comes to decorative ideas for mason jars, the possibilities are so many! Today we will keep it simple – we will make hanging jars with twine. This very easy DIY project can be completed in about 30 minutes. All you need is 3 small mason jars, twine, a piece of wood, potpourri or wood chips, and glue. Below you can find materials similar to the ones I used:

Instead of mason jars, I used three small glass vases I had at home. However, any kind of small glass jars will work as well. I also used a piece of an old tree branch. If you only have thinner sticks, you can tie them together to get a similar piece. If neither of these is an option, you can use these wood dowel rods.

To start, cut 3 pieces of twine. The first 2 pieces should be around 35″ long. The 3rd piece should be around 57″ long. Keep in mind that it is always easier to cut the twine later on, so err on the side of longer twine pieces.

Tie the two shorter pieces of twine in loop knots around the wood.

Make a loop with the longer piece of twine. Tie the loop in an overhand knot, leaving around 11″ of looped twine on one end. Then, tie the other end of the twine in the middle of the wood in an overhand knot.

Make a loop knot right behind the overhand knot. Tighten the knots so there is no room between the twine and the wood. Then, tie each of the three twine pieces in an overhand knot about 2″ below the wood.

Use the twine to make overhand knots right below the mouth of the jars. You can also glue the twine to make the hanging jars decoration sturdier.

To hide any glue marks, tie another piece of twine around the mouth of the jars. Finally, cut any excess twine and fill the jars with potpourri or wood chips. You can also glue some of the wood chips or potpourri on the wood.
