DIY Ideas for Refreshing Your Winter Clothes

Sweatshirt with diy polka dot decoration

It’s getting cold outside and it’s time to bundle up with all those winter clothes you’ve stashed away during the summer. Try one of these three DIY ideas to refresh your winter look:

  1. Personalize that good old hoodie

The nice comfy cotton sweatshirt has become something like the little black dress for cold nights in, shopping trips, and lazy mornings during the winter months. We all have one and we love it. But how about personalizing it and making it unique?

I added polka dot appliques to this purple hoodie and I loved the result. If you want to try something similar, you can follow the steps below:

  • Cut a piece of fabric in the color of your choice
  • Fold the fabric, so you can get several identical layers
  • Cut circles from the fabric
  • Sew the circles to the hood of your sweatshirt, using your choice of thread

The final result is a basic sweatshirt that is now a lot more interesting and eye-catching.

  1. Decorate your coat with colorful buttons

I tried adding really colorful buttons to a black coat last winter and I really liked the result. I replaced the two black buttons on the back side of the coat with two large blue-and-green buttons. The look of the coat was still classic, but now I had a cute accessory to brighten the bad weather days.

Check out the links below for some cool buttons you can use:

  1. Refresh your fabric boots

This will only work for any boot slippers that you use at home or fabric boots that you wear out, but not for leather or suede. You can get cute appliques from a crafts store and stitch them on the outer side of the fabric boots. Works great especially if you are wearing black or beige boots.
