Today I wanted to share with you a fun and relaxing do-it-yourself project that you can complete while lying on your couch and watching TV. I love this type of DIY since it’s perfect for a lazy weekend afternoon.
I wanted to add some color to an open-back tank top with spaghetti straps. I used a thin and stretchy emerald lace. I love the bright blue color of the lace, especially when combined with the black top. You can use any spaghetti straps top for this project, but the top I used here has a loose fit and crisscrossed straps, which makes this DIY design even more attractive. Below you can find materials similar to those I used:
First, I wrapped the thin emerald lace around two of the straps. I pinned the lace at the beginning and at the end of each strap and quickly wrapped it around the straps. Then, using a thread that matches the color of the lace, I stitched the wrapped lace on the straps. If you want to save time, you can sew the lace only on the end points of the straps. However, making some long stitches along the lace-wrapped straps will help keep your DIY outfit intact.
Next, I decided to add some ruffles to the neckline of the top. I hand-stitched three pieces of lace along the neckline. You can also do this using a sewing machine, but it honestly does not take long to hand stitch either. The end of each piece overlapped with the beginning of the following piece to create cascade ruffles.
Finally, I sewed two lace pieces alongside the side stitches of the top. This completed the new brightened look of the top.
In 30 minutes I had a unique outfit that I can enjoy all summer long. Give it a try and share your experience with us @FashionBulb.
