If you are looking for a cheap and easy way to make your home more cozy with some rustic home decor, decorating a glass jar is a great place to start. You can use jars from peanut butter, jelly, pickles, and pretty much anything you have available at home. To remove the label, soak the jar in warm soapy water overnight. Afterwards it will be really easy to wash it off. If this is not an option, then you can buy some cheap mason jars and use them instead.
The materials below will also come in handy for this DIY upcycled glass jar project:
Before you begin decorating, make sure that the glass jar is clean and dry. Then, glue thin wooden sticks onto the jar. Using a glue gun to glue the wooden sticks will make completing this step a piece of cake. A note of caution here – the gun gets really hot when used, so be careful not to burn yourself. If you get a stand for the gun, you can remove the metal wire. And it is this exact metal wire that is very likely to cause a burn if you are not careful, so getting a stand is highly recommended.
To finish the glass jar decoration, weave twine through the top part of the wooden sticks. You can use the twine to add a string of beads or charms. If necessary, you can also glue the beads or charms decoration onto the wooden sticks. For decorating the glass jar below, I used metal watch gear charms and an oversized key.
You can put this upcycled jar to use as a pen holder, a vase, and even in your bathroom as a toothbrush or make up brush holder.
I love this idea for candles around the house!
Yes, this will totally work – the jar I used is quite small so it can be used for tea lights. However, if you decorate a bigger jar you can use it for regular size candles. Or just decorate the glass jar that some candles come in.
