Making lampshades from fabric is a fun and easy way to restyle an old lampshade. All you need to cover a lampshade with fabric is glue, an old t-shirt, and a few beads for decoration.
I will be using an old t-shirt to recover the lampshade of a floor lamp. Below you can see links to materials similar to those I will be using.
The first step is to cut the t-shirt in a suitable shape. If you are working with a rectangular lampshade, cut the t-shirt right below the sleeves. If your lampshade has a cone shape, cut a cone-shaped (trapezoid) piece of the t-shirt.
If the t-shirt you are using is significantly wider than the lampshade, cut any excess fabric. You can sew the ends of the t-shirt together with a sewing machine. If this is not an option, you can use glue instead.
The first step is to glue the end of the fabric along the inner edge of the lampshade.
Then, gather the fabric and glue it together to add more texture to the lampshade.
Finally, glue the other end of the fabric along the other edge of the lampshade.
You can add additional decoration to this DIY lampshade by gluing small beads or pearls on the fabric.
Below you can see the final result.
