3 Easy DIY Throw Pillow Designs: DIY Burlap Pillow

Throw pillow decorations make for one of the most popular DIY projects out there. Today we will start exploring the throw pillow DIY universe with a 3 very easy DIY throw pillow designs. Each one of these ideas can be completed in less than 15 minutes. No fancy sewing skills or equipment necessary.

1. DIY Sequin Pillow

The DIY sequin pillow is a great way to make a cute pillow and at the same time avoid the hassle of measuring, cutting, and a lot of sewing. All you need for this easy DIY is a plain pillow, sequins, glue, and felt coasters, similar to the ones below:

Once you have these materials, use a matching thread to sew the felt coasters on the pillow. If the shape of the coasters is weird and hard to sew, you can use a little bit of glue in addition to sewing. Finally, you can glue some sequins on the coasters.

2. DIY Felt Pillow

Use folded strips of colorful felt to add more texture to a decorative throw pillow. You will only need glue and a little bit of felt to complete this project. You can also use cute buttons for additional decoration. Below are the things I used:

Start by cutting 1″ wide strips of felt.

Then, fold one of the strips and glue it in the center of the pillow by applying hot glue in the middle of the folded strip. Glue the rest of the strips together by applying hot glue on their edges. Finally, glue the last strip to the pillow case. To finish this DIY throw pillow design, glue three large wooden buttons above the felt.

3. DIY Burlap Pillows for Patio Decor

For those of you who are looking for a more natural look, try decorating throw pillows with burlap. For this design you can use any color of burlap and wooden buttons, similar to the materials below:

Start by tying the burlap around the pillow. Then, pull two strings (each should be around 1/4″ away from the edge of the burlap) and gather the burlap. Fold and glue the end of the burlap to prevent unraveling.

Follow the same steps with another piece of burlap.

Finally, sew the wooden button on the burlap knots.
