They say diversity is the spice of life, but adding it to your wardrobe often comes at a hefty price. If you are wondering how to use old clothes to make new outfits instead of spending money, this cute DIY t-shirt makeover is a great place to start.
I got the idea from one of my regular trips to the mall. I saw a cute shirt with tulle sleeves, but I was not willing to spend $30 on it. Instead, I decided to make something similar at home. All you need for this quick t-shirt redesign is an old shirt with elbow length sleeves, some tulle, and a matching thread. I have included links to the stuff I used at the end of the post in case you are missing any of the materials.
Start by reversing the shirt. Then, use pins to attach the tulle on the edge of the sleeves and at the bottom of the shirt. Every couple of inches pleat the tulle to add some texture.
Use a matching thread and a zigzag stitch to sew the tulle. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can also sew by hand, it will just take a bit longer to finish.
Finally, shape the tulle and make it shorter if necessary.
Below you can see the result of my DIY t-shirt makeover. The whole thing took less than 30 minutes to complete. If at some point you get tired of the tulle, removing it without damaging the original fabric is really easy. Just use a seam ripper.
